KAĞITHANE PROJECT

HOUSING AND PUBLIC SPACE PROJECT

It is the place in Cendere Valley which includes Kağıthane Creek in the neighbourhood called Kağıthane, the highly densed residencial area in İstanbul. The land is being confined by various main roads, it accommodates Kağıthane Creek right in the middle and it neighbors with İnönü Street.

The general atmosphere of the area is contrast to the intensive residence image, it is isolated, far from the residences. With the effect of the creek and the limited portion of green it has, it feels like you are very much together with nature, however, it is neglected, very far from people and life. The main objective of the project is to place life into it, to make it usable as it was used to be.

As it can be seen from the section, the terrain is highly flat because it is located very close to the creek.

The permanent necessary human factor for the area (Housing).

The human factor that supplies human flow (Library)

Various human factors in wider profiles (Auditorium)

The human factors reaching the outside profile which will increase the mobility of the area (Exhibition and Convention Halls)

The building has been developed as in the form of embracing the creek, which is the desired view and moving away from the road because the land is sharing a very long path with neighboring İnönü Street.

A slit has been formed for physical reasons like sun-bathing and ventilation.

Each slit is opened up vertically on previous one in order to provide transition between the areas divided by the building block.

The building has been elevated when deviating from the road while it has been kept low at the side close to the road.

Other floors located above the ground floor are turned up at a specific axle and gardens and canopies are created.

The residences at the back are elevated in order to benefit from the sun more and to have a better view of the creek.

The residence axis at the front has been slided in order to help the open spaces between the floors obtain the view easily.

The change as seen on this image has been made in order to support the block and to better meet the needs of the inside places like the auditorium and library.

The building is designed as the volumetric occupancy increases from the middle to the edges. The transition is provided from open spaces to more dense blocks by the platform systems.
